Have you ever been made fun of? I sure have, and it didn't/doesn't make me feel very good! Auggie went through his whole life with people making fun of him because of the way he looked. He was smart, nice, kind, yet none of that mattered. All that people thought about was his face.
I hope reading this book has made you think about some of the judgments you might have made with other people. You shouldn't judge people by what they look like, instead judge them by what's in their heart! |
Activity OneJulian says, "Put a mask on, Auggie!" and says that Auggie should keep his creepy little face hidden away like in The Phantom of the Opera. The Phantom of the Opera was published as a novel in 1910 and was made into a movie in 1925, but it is probably best known for the musical that came out in 1986. Do some research on The Phantom of the Opera and write a short half page summary about the story behind the play.

Activity ThreeNatalie Merchant sang a song that inspired writer R.J. Palacio to write Wonder. Watch the video and listen to the words. Create your own video that would go along with this song to show us how we are all wonders. The lyrics can be found by clicking the button below. Remember, you can use a partner if you would like to.
